• Treat Acne Holistically

It is tempting to say that acne is a condition that is incurable and that it just has to be endured. Many people give up treating acne because they find that out of everything they have tried, nothing seems to work. It is very easy to say that acne is incurable but that is certainly not the case.
Some acne sufferers actually make the problem a lot worse by using harsh products on their skin or plastering their skin with layers of makeup to mask the problem. Neither one of these is helpful in the treatment of acne. In fact, use of a lot of make-up can aggravate acne in two ways - by clogging the pores and by extra use of cleansers to remove the makeup. As mentioned previously, use of harsh cleansers will only aggravate acne. Research recently concluded that it was better to use a cleanser only at night and to wash your face in the morning with warm water.
To treat acne properly, you need to get a proper diagnosis and this entails visiting a dermatologist. The dermatologist can identify causes for your acne, suggest lifestyle changes, prescribe medications and evaluate results.
Acne results when sebum trapped under the skin becomes infected. For mild acne, a simple wash should help clear it up. For moderate to bad acne, you are likely to need a topical anti-biotic like clindoxyl gel. Ask your dermatologist which type of acne you have and see what they prescribe. Clindoxyl gel is just one of the topical anti-biotic treatments available but, for the purposes of this article, let's assume that it is the one the dermatologist prescribes.
The first step in treating your acne is to apply the clindoxyl gel as the dermatologist instructed you to. Be aware that, initially, clindoxyl gel may cause irritation. If that is the case, apply less frequently or contact your dermatologist for advice.
The next step is to implement any lifestyle changes suggested by the dermatologist. Although acne has not been specifically linked to any foods, a diet high in saturated fats and processed foods will not do your skin any favors. Try eating three to five servings of fruit and vegetables a day. Also make sure that you get enough essential fatty acids. Essential fatty acids are vital for the good health of your skin and can be obtained through supplementation. A good food source of essential fatty acids is oily fish so try to get two to three servings of oily fish per week. Make sure you drink at least eight glasses of water daily to further help your skin to stay healthy.
All in all, acne can be treated and need not put a huge dent in your self-confidence. Be persistent in you efforts and treat it holistically and you will see a vast improvement.
